Back to School Safety!

The weather this past week has definitely been a teaser for Fall coming soon.  These first cool breezes can only mean one thing… Back to School! And with school starting it is important to remind ourselves, as well as our children, of some important back to school safety tips.

There’s a lot to keep in mind during the “back to school” season with all the new school supplies, sports starting back up and the change in weather.  But by keeping of these back to school safety tips in mind, you can do your best to help everyone start out with a safe and happy fall and back to school! The National Safety Council has some great reminders available that we thought would be important to share.

Back to School Safety

Back to School Safety

Speed

Parents are hurrying to work and to school. Kids are riding their bikes or walking to get to their classes. School buses are stopping and going picking up children.  With all of these things going on, watch your speed.  It’s the most important thing you can do.

Book bags and Backpacks

Do you ever think that your children’s book bags and backpacks are too heavy? You’re right to worry about these things.  Heavy bags for still growing children can cause a lot of ailments such as back and shoulder pain and poor posture.  When purchasing a bag look for ones with reflective material, various compartments to distribute weight and padded back and shoulder straps.

Phone Safety

Cell Phone Safety

With cell phones in everyone’s hands, its important to not only remind drivers about not using their phones while driving, but kids walking as well.  Looking down at your phone means you are not looking where you are going. Tell your loved ones to not cross the street while looking at their phone. Instead tell them to stop, move to the side and finish what they were doing before crossing the street.

These tips shouldn’t only be used during the back to school season, but always.  This is just a good time of year to refresh your and your children’s memory about safety.
